Prepare the nikah
Consent of both spouses, the wali, two witnesses and the mahr: the imam leads the ceremony.

Scotland is different
In Scotland, notice is also given at least 29 days before, and an approved religious celebrant can conduct a legally valid marriage.
A religious-only nikah is a "non-qualifying ceremony" in English law (Court of Appeal, 2020): it gives neither spouse any legal rights if the marriage ends. Completing the legal steps protects you both.
